Classes Offered
Classes are organized according to age and/or level. All beginning group piano classes are two year programs, divided into four terms (A B C D). Parents are recommended and encouraged to attend classes with their child. Parental attendance is required for the Young Musician and Grand Ivories classes. Recitals are held at the end of each term.
 
Young Musician (ages mature 2-young 4)
Young Musician teaches the joy of music through a positive, supportive, social environment. Concepts covered include: learning pitches, rhythm, listening, movement (both gross and fine motor skills), piano technique, singing (with solfege syllables), and theory. Classes begin with rote (by-ear) learning and move to note reading as your child progresses. Starting young, children can carry the gift of music with them for a lifetime! All materials and recital included in tuition. Parental attendance required. 50 minutes.
Grand Ivories (ages mature 4-6)
This fun, fast paced class teaches music just suited for your busy young one. This class jumps from one activity to another to adapt to your young child's attention span. Concepts covered include: proper piano technique/posture, note reading, rhythm exercises, theory, singing (with solfege syllables), history, games, listening, movement, and playing with expression. All materials and recital included in tuition. Parental attendance required. 50 minutes.
Keyboard Musician (ages 7-11)
The Keyboard Musician class is perfect musical start for your school aged child. Classes move very quickly into reading and comprehending music, based on each child's ability. Concepts covered include: early note reading, singing (with solfege syllables), rhythms, pattern and concept finding, proper piano technique/posture, how to practice, theory, history, listening, games, movement, and playing with expression. All materials and recital included in tuition. 50 minutes.
Clavier Scholars (ages 12-18)
This class is a straight-forward approach to beginning piano. Students learn through an accelerated process, building confidence and skills along the way. Concepts covered include: note reading, singing (with solfege syllables), rhythms, pattern and concept finding, proper piano technique/posture, how to practice, theory, history, listening, games, movement, and playing with expression. All materials and recital included in tuition. 50 minutes.
Young at Heart Piano (ages 18 and up)
Young at Heart Piano is a mature approach to beginning piano. This class moves rapidly into note reading and advanced musical ideas. Concepts covered include: note reading, singing (with solfege syllables), rhythms, pattern and concept finding, proper piano technique/posture, how to practice, theory, history, listening, games, movement, and playing with expression. All materials and recital included in tuition. 50 minutes.
Music Theory (I and II) (ages high-school - adult)
The music theory classes teach the nuts and bolts of tonal music. These are great classes for those going into college level music or for those who want to know more about the 'how' and 'why' of music composition. Music Theory I begins with basic musical concepts like intervals, scales, and basic chords. Music Theory II moves into more complex chords, chord progression/function, and the class ends with a music composition project. Music Theory I is a prerequisite of Music Theory II. All materials are included in tuition.
Private Piano Lessons
Private piano lessons (30, 45, or 60 minutes) are offered at The Piano Academy. Lessons are available to all ages and levels, although The Piano Academy strongly encourages beginners to start in group lessons. Recitals are included in tuition. Materials are extra based on the needs of each student.
